ARE THERE LIMITATIONS ON THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS ON EACH TEAM?

There are some sports at Eversole Run MS that have no major limits on the amount of participants on each team. These are referred to as “non-cut” sports. These sports are Football, Cross Country, Wrestling, Track and Field, and Lacrosse. There are other sports that, due to specified variables, we can only support a certain amount of participants on each team. These are referred to as “cut sports.” These teams are formed through a “try-out” process that yields the roster based on the student-athlete performance in an evaluatory setting. These sports are Cheerleading, Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.

IF A STUDENT DOES NOT “MAKE” A “CUT SPORT” ROSTER, CAN HE/SHE STILL PARTICIPATE IN ANOTHER SPORT?

Yes. If a student does not “make” a “cut sport” roster, he/she are welcome on any one of our “non-cut sport” rosters without penalty. In addition, the community recreation league (Dublin Youth Athletics) offers the following sports so even if a student does not “make” the school team, he/she can still participate in the desired sport: Baseball, Basketball, Golf,, Softball, and Volleyball. Visit www.dya.com for more information.

HOW DO STUDENTS GET INVOLVED WITH AN ATHLETIC TEAM?

Before each season, Head Coaches hold informational meetings during school time where Student-Athletes will sign up and obtain all necessary paperwork and/or registration materials for each sport including OHSAA Physical forms, and a try-out/practice schedule.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PLAY A SPORT?

There are TYPICAL fees that are collected over the course of an athletic season. The mandatory fee is the Dublin City Schools Pay to Participate. This is $30 per sport, per athlete. In addition to the Pay to Participate, there are other fees that vary from sport-to-sport depending on the equipment requirements, etc. Nonetheless, it is typical for there to be a team meal, supplemental cloth wear, and awards night fee for each team can total (or in some cases, exceed) between $50-75 additional dollars for the season.

HOW OFTEN DOES A STUDENT ATHLETE NEED A NEW PHYSICAL?

ATHLETIC PHYSICALS are good for one calendar year. The OHSAA allows a one-month grace period until you are denied participation. If you have your physical on July 1st Final Forms will show it expires on August 1st of the next year. You must have a new physical on file with the Athletic Trainer by August 1st. The OHSAA provides athletic physical forms: https://www.ohsaa.org/medicine/physicalexamform (You only need to complete pages #1 - #5.)

WHAT PAPERWORK IS INVOLVED WITH EACH SPORT?

Each athlete is required to have a valid Ohio High School Athletic Association Physical Form on file. These forms need to be completed during a physical examination done by a doctor. They are valid for (1) calendar year from the examination date. This form can be obtained on the SMS Athletic Web-Site. Once completed, the forms need to be submitted to the Athletic Director or Head Trainer.

In addition, each parent and student-athlete must complete all required form sets on Final Forms. Register at https://dublin-oh.finalforms.com.
